About VOI Tool utility

VOI Tool utility (VoiTool) developed in the PET Lab of Institute if the Human Brain as add-on to SPM99 (see SPM web site). It intended for analyzing Volumes of Interest (VOIs). Currently at least three programs for VOI or ROI analysis are in use in SPM community (see: Tools for Functionally Defined Regions of Interests, author: Kalina Christoff; MarsBar - MARSeille Boite A Region d'interet, author: Matthew Brett; roi - region-of-interest (ROI) analysis toolbox, author: Russ Poldrack,). VOI Tool utility has many features similar to those in existing programs for VOI or ROI analysis, but also offers some new:

  1. Predefined set of anatomical VOIs corresponding to all Talairach Atlas Labels, used in Talairach Daemon.
  2. Ability to save any VOI (including all predefined anatomical VOI) as SPM compatible image, which cab be used for masking.
  3. Ability to save signal intensity data extracted for given set of VOIs as plain ASCII text file (tab delimited format), which may be used as input by the most statistical programs for further statistic analysis.

VOI Tool utility has also some limitation, in particular, extracting signal intensity data and saving these data as plain ASCII text file are limited only to PET/SPECT models.
